Hetmyer's Last-Ball Six Seals Record Chase for Seattle Orcas
MI New York had earlier set a formidable score of 237/4, propelled by a magnificent unbeaten century from captain Nicholas Pooran, who scored 108 off just 60 balls, including 7 fours and 8 sixes. Tajinder Dhillon provided valuable support with a blistering 95 off 35 deliveries.
Despite the onslaught, Gerald Coetzee and Kyle Mayers managed to grab two wickets each, helping the Orcas regain some control.
Seattle's chase began poorly, with Josh Brown and Shayan Jahangir falling early in the powerplay.
Kyle Mayers (37 off 20) and captain Sikandar Raza (30 off 9) launched a rapid counter-attack to revive the innings. Heinrich Klaasen then contributed a quickfire 26 off 13 balls before being dismissed by Rushil Ugarkar.
This set the stage for Hetmyer's match-winning innings. With the required run rate increasing and wickets falling, Hetmyer shifted gears, scoring an unbeaten 97 off just 40 balls, hitting 5 fours and 9 sixes at a remarkable strike rate of 242.50.
Needing five runs off the final ball, Hetmyer faced MI New York captain Kieron Pollard. He expertly flicked the ball over fine leg for a six, potentially the most significant of his T20 career, igniting jubilant celebrations among the Seattle team.
"This is one of the best because our backs were against the wall," said Hetmyer, who was named Player of the Match. "I wanted to take the game as deep as possible."
