Birmingham: Jasprit Bumrah's intensity was palpable the moment he entered the Edgbaston Cricket Ground nets. With a focused demeanor, he swiftly prepared for an intense session of fast bowling. After a brief warm-up, marked by his signature shoulder movement, he measured his run-up for a 20-minute spell at full speed. With several key batsmen absent, Bumrah bowled to players like Sai Sudharsan, Ravindra Jadeja, and Karun Nair.
He challenged the batters with accuracy, varying his angles by bowling around the wicket to left-handers and utilizing the crease's width for right-handers. Bumrah appeared fresh, benefiting from a three-day break from bowling. He bowled alongside Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, who also trained purposefully after skipping bowling practice the previous day.
Each bowler practiced for approximately thirty minutes before batting in the nets. Siraj focused on defensive techniques with the batting coach, while Bumrah explored various bowling styles, including side-arm deliveries and slow bowling. Despite an initially shaky batting start, Bumrah gained confidence and ended the day looking assured.
Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja continued his batting practice, and Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep impressed with their performances. Kuldeep Yadav focused on both batting and bowling, leaving no stone unturned in his preparation.
The left-arm wrist-spinner actively sought feedback from the support staff and teammates, experimenting with new angles and lengths. The dry conditions in Birmingham may favor Kuldeep's inclusion in the second Test.
Kuldeep has dedicated significant time to improving his batting under the guidance of head coach Gautam Gambhir and batting coach Sitanshu Kotak. Over the past 18 months, he has been diligently working to contribute meaningfully with the bat.
The team will now take a break before regrouping on June 30. While the bowlers relax, the suspense around Bumrah's participation remains for at least the next 48 hours.
